What do you mean there are only 24 hours in a day!

Turns out that 24 are not enough. In between work, family and a myriad of other things I’m just not getting the time to keep posting here (or anywhere else for that matter). So I’m hitting pause on Invincible Bastion for the time being. Hopefully in the future more time will present itself, as long as it’s not accompanied by a P45 again!

Blogging has been a real eye opener for me and I remain amazed that the site was attracting over 4,500 hits a day at its peak. There was me thinking I just spoke rubbish!

If you do like what I’ve had to say (fools) then I will still be contributing to other sites etc. I find I can be more flexible with other commitments, rather than trying to ensure x amount of posts get put on here every month. The main ones will be:

Well Red Magazine – If you don’t buy this magazine then you’re mad!

The Tomkins Times – Yes it’s subscription based but if any site was worth a few quid every month it’s this one. Especially if you are level headed, able to debate reasonably and want to interact without caps lock or screaming!

There will also be other sites I hope to contribute to, who’ve contacted me in the past. So I’ll be around and of course I’m always on twitter @mcdonaldtaf

Coming Soon… Blogging

New job, relocating, close season and only one contributor to this site means only one thing – no posts! Apologies for my lack of posts and tweets and everything else. Normal service will resume when the new season kicks off (or shortly before). I’m looking forward to getting settled and writing again if the truth be told.

So just one quick LFC snippet for you to think about. I read an excellent piece about LFC and UEFA financial fair play rules on The Tomkins Times by Dan Kennett. There is one thing that concerns me about the whole thing though. That is while other clubs may find a way to navigate the rules in one way or another we’ll use it as a reason/excuse for tightening the purse strings.  Given the importance of top 4 football and the financial strength of the opposition there could be worrying times ahead. UEFA’s new initiative may well ensure the financial viability of the top clubs in the league. Whether they will be robust enough to stop the steroid like financial injections into club’s balance sheets is yet to be seen.

I’ll keep pondering on it. No doubt, more soon!

Site Update – January 2011

Posted: January 18, 2011 by mcdonaldtaf in Site News

The end of 2010 and early 2011 has been pretty special for Invincible Bastion and rewarding for me personally. The site, which attracted hundreds of visitors per article for most of 2010, now gets thousands of hits on most posts. Some still bomb out but I guess that comes with the territory. The end of 2010 was pretty crappy for me in other areas of my life so it was good to have such a positive end to the year (and start of this) for the site. What follows are some updates for 2011. (more…)

Apologies II

Hello all. I’m afraid my life has become very topsy turvy of late.  This is a Major annoyance given the amount of activity at the club at the moment. Unfortunately though other things are taking priority at the moment and it’s looking like I may be relocating soon (if I can find a job).

I will be back soon and my regular posts will return. Until then make sure you all question the validity and possible downfalls of any takeover. Once bitten and all that…

I’ve not had much chance to post on here of late, despite the number of business stories which are circling the club at the moment. I keep going to write something and then I realise that other things must take precedence. My posts usually take 3-6 hours (yes really) and I just haven’t had the luxury of that kind of time. This has mainly been down to having to write my dissertation for my Masters degree; which is now written but still being edited. There has also been a lot going on in work and my workload just seems to continue increasing.

However, regular posts will resume again very soon – now the dissertation is pretty much complete. You’ll be glad to know that, as usual, I have lots to say. I’ve also been asked (or twisted Paul’s arm enough to get him to agree) to write some pieces for The Tomkins Times (which I am very excited about) so subscribers to that site will get some extra pieces.

I plan to release the key findings from my dissertation, which included a case study of Liverpool Football Club, on both The Tomkins Times (subject to editorial approval) and this site. My dissertation will also be available for download in full at some stage as well.

So finally, and very briefly, it is rumoured that with the involvement of Barclays Capital our much loved and respected (hut hum) owners are on their way out of the door. I’m not sure how much of this I believe to be honest. With such a high valuation (said to be £600m) I have to wonder whether it is more PR spin along with some ‘smoke and mirrors’. More of that soon….

As some of you will know I come from a business / management background. I have conceded in the past that my knowledge of the intricacies of the tactical side of the game and foreign players is not quite up there with the like of Paul Tomkins – nowhere near. I didn’t think that Paul would be up for guest posts so I decided to ask my brothers. Both of my brothers are football fanatics and follow the games, teams and players in all the major leagues – as well as both doing well in their english A-levels! It just seemed to fit. Without further ado, this is the first post from my youngest brother Rob…

I grew up in the 1990’s. This attatches various stigmas, for instance I am often derided by my Girlfriend (who is only three years older than me) about TV shows I had no experience of and music I don’t remember. I also happened to grow up in one of Liverpool Football Club’s leanest spells. I guess this means I’m always fully prepared for dissapointment. However, I – like almost every other LFC fan – thought this season would be the season we finally reclaimed our place at the top of the pile.

A new site

So I’ve decided to give wordpress a go with a blog devoted entirely to Liverpool Football Club.
